I worked for an Iranian family for four years. They fled the country after the Islamic Revolution. They had family members who were murdered or imprisoned. One of my friends’ father was imprisoned for 10 years. When he was finally released in 2018, she was only able to reunite via FaceTime because she couldn’t return to the country of her birth. There are many, many thousands of stories like this.
Thank you, Yael, for documenting this long-awaited moment of jubilation!
I cannot heart ❤️ and like 🎉this statement enough! “What I experienced Sunday demonstrated the beauty of New York City and the United States. These were people who had come from far away for a better life, expressing pride both in their rich heritage and in America. The feeling was contagious. Too bad the mayor missed the party.”

This offensive may or may not have been a good idea, but these people deserve their celebration!
Thanks for capturing a historic NYC moment –one that should make all New Yorkers proud!

Often referred to as a circle jerk. I guess the same turnout as the crowd celebrating the twin towers coming down in Jersey.
