Obama's excellent quote sounds right wing by today's standards.

Exactly correct.

I’ve been saying the same thing for a couple weeks now.

And even prior to “Woke 1 is crazy”, even if we all agree that we’d hit Peak Woke, it doesn’t mean that the downslope is steep. In fact, the downslope has been fairly mild and may just turn into a plateau.

I suspect a long plateau followed by a steep drop. Enough people are dug in to this worldview that they control the Democratic Party, so they'll keep trying cosmetic fixes as the non-Woke Dems try to accommodate the hardliners without forcing them to abandon or alter any core belief.

I don’t deny the possibility of a steep drop at some time in the future.

I’m just claiming it won’t be any time soon.

It would take the left losing at least one election bigly, and probably two in a row, before any such change happened imo.

Agreed. It's going to take a big push, like it becoming obvious a Dem will never be President without abandoning the woke brigade or the GOP drifting far enough right to force a third party or some other fracture of the current two-party system.

My guess would be mid-2030s before this happens.

The problem is that I agree your guess is more likely than not, but… more likely than not just means it’s, say, 60-40 each of the next two elections we don’t get a socialist president along with a socialist Congress.

A 40% chance of 4 years of socialism twice within the next 6 years is not a heartwarming prospect.

The whole "Woke is Dead" or "Woke 1.0" narratives are some combo of clickbait, coping method and the deep presentism of our amnesiac discourse.

Social Justice ideology is a political religion involving sacred beliefs, or in the words of Eric Kaufmann it is: "a pseudo-religious belief system which is organised around the sacralization of historically marginalised racial, sexual & gender minorities and which prioritises subjectivity & lived experience over objectivity and empirical evidence."

Simply, people don't abandon sacred beliefs because of losing one election. They might fudge them, conceal and deny, change wording etc, but none of the essential woke beliefs have been abandoned—certainly not when it comes to race or gender—as they provide both social coherence, a worldview and shared group morality.

And this, as we see, is most obvious and durable when it comes to race: to progressives and liberals in general, their allyship with the black/brown (and "feeling their pain") works as a status marker and moral credential and is how they differentiate themselves from their hated politcal enemies, the Deplorables. THEY are the ones who GET IT and do the work and center the marginalized and are compassionate saviors on the Right Side of History™️—all this is too useful and too deeply embedded to change.

Social Justice is the first great political religion of the 21st century and will most likely provide the worldview and morality of all university-processed liberals for the rest of their lives. It's much better to squarely face and accept this reality than pretend these beliefs are just a passing trendy hula hoop. "Woke" isn't anywhere near dead and will most likely outlive us all, in some attenuated form.
